Department of Rehabilitation will be providing an interactive presentation on Disability Etiquette and Reasonable accommodations where we will share best practices as well as giving Employer Advisory Committee members some valuable take aways as well as resources on these exciting topics.
Topics will include:
The different types of disabilities and the best ways to interact with someone in the workplace. The importance of duty statements and essential job functions Guided discussion on the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended and the Fair Employment and Housing Act How to accommodate workers with disabilities
One of the main objectives of the departments presentation is to make sure businesses have usable information when hiring individuals with disabilities, as well as retain valuable employees, and foster diverse a workplace.
Toussaint Wade - California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR)
Toussaint Wade is currently a Regional Business Specialist for the California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) in the Inland Empire. Where he provides guidance and leadership to the entire Inland Empires DOR Business Specialist. In addition he serves in helping individuals with disabilities become independent, find employment, and achieve equality. He is a military veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps from 1999-2005. He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Redlands.
He is a member of the Riverside Workforce Development Board, where he participates in activities that lead to the economic growth of Riverside County. To increase the labor participation rate, and grow the economic success of companies invested in the area.
His experience in both private and public sector careers help him lend his expertise to various stakeholders in consulting on employment. At the end of the day he believes business is about people, from the owner to the customer. He works to understand a companys needs, and pain points. Then works with them to find and create solutions. Toussaint began working with the Department of Rehabilitation with the belief that working is never about ones disability, but instead about their ability to work.
