Senator Erica Smith
State Senator Erica Smith is a graduate of the NC School of Science and Math, and earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University in 1994. Her professional experiences include working as a Student Engineer for Newport News Shipbuilding; Senior Specialist Engineer for the Boeing Co, Patent Examiner for the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office; she has taught High School Math, Chemistry and Physics since 2003, and is currently a Secondary Math Instructional Specialist.
Ms. Smith-Freshwater is a graduate of the NC School of Science and Math, and earned a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University in 1992, and M.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2009. Ms. Smith-Freshwater has applied her engineering expertise to the health care field. Her professional experiences include working as Chief Biomedical Engineer for the VA Medical Center in Hampton, Viriginia; and Healthcare Technology and Real Time Location System Manager for Veterans Integrated Service Network. She also acts as a mentor & research advisor for students enrolled at NC A & T State University pursuing MS degrees in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering.
